As CEO of Club Med Japan, I had the pleasure of visiting many fabulous resorts around the world. Mauritius remains one of my favorites. Why?
– Gorgeous beaches
– Multilingual population
– Combination of the best qualities of the French, British and Portuguese influences on the island.
– African music from near-by Africa
– Excellent French cuisine
– Wonderful South African wines
It was just another day’s work when I escorted Francoise to Club Med Mauritius in 2000. To make her comfortable we also brought her husband, Tatsuji Nagataki, and my husband, Ray Gordon. To understand why this can be considered “work,” you need to understand the importance of Francoise Morechand to a French company in Japan. Francoise was very well known to Club Med’s Japanese customers as the French lifestyle taste maker in Japan. Fully fluent in Japanese, she was often on Japanese TV. She has been followed avidly through the years as a fashion icon and thought leader.
This interview of Francoise Morechand in the Japan Times gives you an excellent picture of her background.
Because we were with Francoise, we were invited to the very exclusive private island called Ilot Mangénie by the hotel Le Touessrok. We enjoyed a gourmet lunch there.
In our case, we flew from Japan via Singapore.
Ray bought his first professional digital camera for this trip to take photos of Francoise. The rest of the photos of Mauritius are on slides. I will be adding some of those in the future.
